Winks, Platt x Head Like A Kite

Head Like A Kite - the Seattle indie duo made up of Dave Einmo joined by Trent Moorman on drums and a in the studio they are joined by slew of revolving musicians. Please pick up "There Is Loud Laughter Everywhere" its so worth it. Seattle has always been a hub for outstanding music and Head Like A Kite does not disappoint. Was editing and listening to Head Like a Kite last night and woke up this morning singing "Directors Cut". Directors Cut is a track available on the Give Seattle Compilation. Pick up the Give Seattle compilation album as well its a great album and for a great cause. The Silent Protest x Liu Bolin

Dubbed “The Invisible Man” and for good reason, Chinese artist Liu Bolin gets his kicks by painting himself into the background with some urban camouflage. His work is a silent protest against his government for it’s persecution of artists.

He says - “Some people call me the invisible man, but for me it’s what is not seen in a picture which is really what tells the story. After graduating from school I couldn’t find suitable work and I felt there was no place for me in society. I experienced the dark side of society, without social relations, and had a feeling that no one cared about me, I felt myself unnecessary in this world. From that time, my attitude turned from dependence into revolting against the system.”

California Heritage Museum x Skateboards

Living in Venice CA. you get to see your fair share of skateboarding legends many of who are featured here in a 1884 Santa Monica house. Brought to you by California Heritage Museum this is an exhibit to check out. Guest curated by Nathan Pratt in conjunction with museum staff curator Michael Trotter and advisory committee members Jeff Ho, Skip Engblom, Cris Dawson, Tony Alva, Stacy Peralta and Christian Hosoi. The exhibition traces the evolution of boards from pre-1950 to the present.

Woolrich The Original Outdoor Company

Went shopping today on Abbott Kinney looking for some stocking stuffers but ended up with what I might call my best find this winter... A fresh classic Woolrich button up. Woolrich has been making wool outdoor wear since 1830 thats 179 yrs plus years. Check out their site, they bring pure fire to the game of outdoor wear. Love the picture at the top of a Woolrich trench coat.

J-Crew X Ron Herman

So J-crew has opened up a shop-n-shop concept in the Ron Herman L.A. store... I'm not too sure how I feel about this. The people at Ron Herman are not the best, there not too smart plus they are arrogant for no reason at all. Not sure what makes them elitist but the majority of retail employes in the Ron Herman could use a little bit of an education in manners and maybe an ass beating. As you can tell the Ron Herman store has left me with a bad taste. I love me some J-crew and Ron himself did pick some great product but the people that work under that roof alone has made me 86 Ron Herman from my list of Los Angeles retailers.

Currently listening:
Broken Bells - The High Road

Jason Collett - Love Is A Dirty Word

Midlake - Head home

Local Natives - Sun Hands

The XX - Teardrops

Sorel X Concepts

Sorel has been making durable, comfortable cold weather footwear since 1908... In 1960 Sorel was the 1st to combine rubber bottoms with leather uppers and removable felt liners. Concepts worked with the Sorel team to bring this sickness... Enjoy and buy.

Bookends X Ugh Nice Watch

Been listening to Bookends by Simon & Garfunkel and cant get the theme song out of my head. great song with some very simple words with a great message. Well to me that is.

Photographed our annual Christmas party this weekend... Rain and all it was a hit. The aftermath was a mess... My buddies car was stolen while he was sleeping upstairs sorry SH that was funny. None the less we had a great time and got some great photos from the night more to come.. I shot everything with a Tokina AT-X 124 AF Pro DX 12-24mm f4 (keeping it at 12 the whole time) got some shadows but it's what I was looking for.

The lens is great and defiantly worth a try or even a purchase. The great thing about this lens is that its compatible with both Nikon and Cannon bodies. I use Nikon.

Music I'm listening to:

Animal Kingdom - Chalk Stars
(AMAZING TRACK)

The Rakes - 1989

Turbo Fruits - Naked With You

Ojai x MIRRORS

Looking over photos from a recent trip to Ojai CA. I have no complaints about this quaint town thats filled with organic farms, locally owned and operated grocery stores... as a matter of fact everything was locally owned an operated. The town was beautiful in every sense of the word. These pictures are from around the cabin I stayed at... I am sure more is to come, the cabin is next to the Theodore Woolsey house, actually on the same plot of land but the cabin does have its own fenced in yard which was perfect; 2 water fountains, stone deck, grill and out door furniture. Sorry I can't stop thinking about this place.

Currently listening to:
MIRRORS - Look At Me

Hard as nails...

nuff Said...

Bowery Ballroom x Crystal Antlers

Was in New York all last week and got to see 3 amazing bands, 2 that I listen to already. Von Haze, Crystal Antlers and The Big Pink. Von Haze played while the Bowery regulars sat downstairs getting liquored up (not a bad band at all actually really good).

Crystal Antlers came on before The Big Pink which by the way is one of my favorite bands at the moment (i go through music like a kid in dippers) needless to say I was completely blown away by the live show of Crystal Antlers... not like they have a stage show of any sorts but the sheer presence and energy each band member exudes especially that of Damian Edwards. His dancing and playing was just pure energy and I loved it. do yourself a favor go hunt them down and watch them play pick up a CD and enjoy.

The Big Pink was great and I will go see them again for sure. Was told by a 50 year old man (who was dancing around like a little girl at a NKOTB show) that The Big Pink reminded him of Jefferson Airplane. Not a bad comparison.
